Is The Dreamer fun?

Who stays at Dreamer?

The Dreamer serves backpackers & travelers of all types looking for quality budget accommodation, with a bit of luxury and fun vibes as well. The Dreamer is not just a place to stay. Yes, we offer wonderful accommodations, but more than that, we offer a place to connect with others, make friends and create new experiences together

Do you accept Credit Cards?

Yes, we do accept all types of credit cards including Visa, Mastercard and AMEX

Do you exchange money and where is the closest ATM? (Santa Marta)

We do not exchange money except for emergency situations (ex, to pay for the taxi ride etc). However, there are a number of nearby ATM’s (~7 minutes walk from the hostel) in the buenavista mall

Do you exchange money and where is the closest ATM? (Palomino)

We do not exchange money except for emergency situations (ex, to pay for the taxi ride etc). However, the closest ATM is in Mingueo (~15 minutes motorbike ride from the hostel) the next town after Palomino

Can we add extra guests to our room?

Yes, you can add extra guest to your private room. Please note, there is an small additional cost per guest

What should we bring to the Dreamer? (Santa Marta)

What you bring will be dependent on which activities you plan to do during your time in Colombia! Most of our travelers choose to take advantage of the beautiful surrounding areas, including stunning beaches and lush jungles. If you plan to join us on one of our signature adventures (Lost City Tour, hiking in Tayrona National Park, Tubing down Don Diego River etc) you will need to bring proper hiking and and swimming attire. What should we bring to the Dreamer? (Palomino)

What you bring will be dependent on which activities you plan to do during your time in Colombia! Palomino may have a lower temperature at night so we recommend you bring at least one item to cover you against the cold, just in case.

Most of our travelers choose to take advantage of the beautiful surrounding areas, including stunning beaches and lush jungles. If you plan to join us on one of our signature adventures (Lost City Tour, hiking in Tayrona National Park, Tubing down Don Diego River etc) you will need to bring proper hiking and and swimming attire. How do we get around Santa Marta?

The easiest way to get around the city is by taxi. Because of the size of the city, the rides are not expensive and it will take you the shortest time to reach to your destination.

How do we get around Palomino?

From the hostel we have a shuttle leaving from the hostel during the week at 11:30am. If you will be leaving at a different time, we are just a five minute walk to the bus stop that takes you to Santa Marta and its surrounding areas, such as Rodadero, Taganga, Bonda, Center, Palomino (leaving ~every 30 min). To get around the town or travel nearby you can also ride on the back of a motorbike for a cheap price.

What is the best way to travel to other cities in Colombia?

Central De Transporte de Santa Marta (Bus station); the only bus station in the local area that has connections to Medellin, San Gil, Bogota, etc. 3 mins away by taxi from the hostel.

Shuttle service direct to Cartagena; 5 daily services taking you from The Dreamer directly to the door of your chosen hostel in Cartagena. You can make the reservation at the reception.

Shuttle service to local areas of interest; such as; Tayrona National Park, Playa Concha Beach, and Palomino. Direct 8 seated shuttle service leaving each morning. Although a little more expensive (4 to 5 USD) than taking a local bus (0,7USD) , it's much quicker, you get picked up from the hostel and there's aircon too! Sign up at reception the day before.

Minca public transport; Because we are on the way to Minca we can arrange for the local bus to pick you up at for the same price as going all the way to the market stop, throughout the day. Ask at reception to make you a reservation.

Do you have Wifi at Dreamer?

Yes, we have one of the most stable Wifi in the area. Especially at our Santa Marta and Bogota locations. At our Palomino location, public services are very limited: there is no fixed phone line or ADSL - this applies for ALL hostels in the area. So please be patient and consider this as part of the experience of living in a sacred territory and the spiritual center of the native Tayrona people for thousands of years.

I am arriving late at night, can I still check in?

Santa Marta - No problem, our reception is open 24hr

Palomino - our reception is open between 7am-11pm so please make an effort to arrive between these times. If not possible, please send us a whattsapp message letting us know

Do you offer laundry service at Dreamer? (Santa Marta)

Yes! We have 2 types of laundry service depending on your needs. We offer “standard service” that can take 24h and “express service” that will be completed in under 12 hours

Do you offer laundry service at Dreamer? (Palomino)

Yes! We have laundry service. However, please keep in mind that this depend on the weather

Can I reserve the Lost City Trek with you?

Yes, we have partnered with a top rated tour agency and can book it for you. The trek is available every day except for the month of september when the natives from the area request a break for the spirit of the mountain to rest.

I am a Colombian guest, what is the IVA tax about?

The IVA tax is Colombia’s version of VAT, which is collected by the government (the DIAN office) as a tax on colombians at 19%. Many countries in Latin America tend to have a VAT tax. This tax does not apply to foreigners.

Do you accept pets?

Santa Marta - While we love pets, out of respect for our guests who may be allergic, we do not host pets at this time.

Palomino - Because our hostel is spacious and has many green areas, we are able to host pet. HOwever, it’s very important that they are well trained and not aggressive, otherwise we won’t be able to host them ; (

Can you surf near Dreamer?

Yes! You can also surf at Palomino beach and there are a couple of different surf schools to choose from. Ask at the reception for more information

I am coming for a celebration, can you prepare something special?

Yes! We would love to help celebrate your special occasion with us. As we have hundreds of guests coming and leaving everyday please give us a few days head up so we can best serve you. Feel free to reach out to us directly on our contact us form above.

Do you have a communal kitchen we can cook in?

Santa Marta - we have a fully equipped kitchen located on the second floor- just bring the ingredients, which you can pick up from Buenavista shopping center- the largest in town (just 3 blocks from the hostel)

Free coffee and tea are provided as well. All we ask is that you wash your dishes at the end of your meal ; ) Palomino- We don’t have a communal kitchen, but you can use our BBQ to prepare some of your food at the grill and we are happy to store some of your food in our fridges.

What does your food menu offer?

With Italian roots, we pride ourselves in offering a variety of delicious food at a fair price. In addition to home-made pizzas & pastas, we also offer a variety of international cuisine. We promise you will find something you like. Feel free to ask us for our recomendations or most popular dishes ; )

Is breakfast included?

As many of our guests leave very early in the morning & do not eat breakfast with us, we do not include breakfast as to keep are prices as fair as possible for everyone. For a small charge, we offer an all you can eat delicious breakfast buffet daily (including eggs, toast, pancakes, fresh fruits, vegetables, juices, coffee & more).

Do you offer bag storage?

We offer complimentary bag storage for guests, and 10.000 COP/day per non-guest.

What other tours can I reserve with you?

There are many tours you can book through us including Lost City tour, Cabo de la Vela, Punta Gallinas, Bahia Concha, Minca, Diving & Bird watching. If there are other activities you are interested in that are not listed, just ask our receptionists and we can likely provide a good recommendation

My plans have changed and I need to cancel my reservation.

Our cancellation policy for Dreamer in Palomino is 15 days ahead.
Our cancellation policy for Dreamer Santa Marta is 48 hours ahead.

If you are cancelling within the above time window, you can send us an email for the cancellation. Keep in mind depending on the time of the cancellation we will be able to refund between 25% and 75%

If you are outside this time window, we recommend you contact the site where you booked directly (Hostelworld, Booking etc.)

What are the best local medical options?

Santa Marta - The best option is Perfect body They have a lot of experience with travelers accept many international insurances. You can also visit Salud Total or La Milagrosa. Palomino - The nearest option is Mingueo, a town that its 20 minutes away from Palomino. Second closest would be one of the clinics in Riohacha.

I am using an international credit card, why is there a 5% charge?

This charge is the fee for an international transaction.
